The Ways to Celebrate Life: On Migratory and Diasporic Home-Making in Contemporary London, an exhibition by CREAM PhD researcher, Claire Jing Wang has opened at London Gallery West in Harrow Campus.
Claire Jing Wang is a London-based researcher and artist with an interdisciplinary background in visual arts and anthropology. Influenced by the practices of Do-Ho Suh, Alia Syed, Yinka Shonibare and Siah Armajani, she seeks to investigate themes of migration and home through the exploration of material space and surface.
As the title suggests, The Ways to Celebrate Life is an attempt to highlight the existence of migrants and diaspora members within the urban space of London and materialise the connections between these people and the city in architectural forms. Through a variety of art forms including short animation film, installation and collage, the exhibition demonstrates a possible new approach to the representation of the London experience of the migratory people.
The displaced life is as worthy of being celebrated as any other lives, and will be celebrated here.
