Westminster’s exceptional connections to the international fashion industry inform and contextualise our research activities, providing a framework for our research which centres on the production, design, mediation, and consumption of clothing and dress. Our key research themes encompass masculinities and material culture, sustainable design systems, curatorial practices, and sustainable production and supply chain management.

Central to our research activity is the Westminster Menswear Archive, which was established to encourage and develop the study of menswear through the analysis of its material culture. It houses over 2500 garments ranging from military, workwear, industrial, social, and designer clothing, and enables the intersection of students, researchers, and industry users. Its use by our industry partners to conduct research prior to the design and production of new product, allows this activity to be located within our research centre. Fashion research is co-ordinated by Professor Andrew Groves.
