Following the success of last year’s course, “Inside Out: The Workings of a Photographic Gallery” returns in 2024. This is a course in collaboration with The Photographers’ Gallery developed and led by Dr Sara Dominici.
Spanning eight weeks, “Inside Out” introduces and explores key themes concerning the photographic sector today. At a time of unprecedented public interest in the medium, and with an international community of photographers growing, cultural institutions such as The Photographers’ Gallery are at the centre of current debates and practices on the future of lens-based media in the public realm. While photography has long been marginalised within the art sector and treated as an inconsequential lowbrow pursuit, today it is a medium taken seriously by both major cultural institutions and the art market. As a thriving practice enjoyed across societies and cultures, it has proved its ubiquitous and important role in people’s lives.
Each session goes behind the scenes at The Photographers’ Gallery to consider what it means to present and work with photography in the 21st century. More information about the course, including details of each session, is available on The Photographers’ Gallery website. This course is produced in partnership with the MA Museums, Galleries & Contemporary Culture at the University of Westminster.
10:00-13:00 on Thursdays for eight weeks, starting Thursday 1 February 2024.
