Production Design Research and Education Network (PD-REN) International Symposium
This day brought production design educators together as a community of practitioners, teachers and researchers. Production design education has developed around the world from a variety of beginnings, so this was an exciting opportunity to share research and curriculum approaches and ideas from around the globe. Other topics for discussion included the rise of technologies including virtual production using LED volumes, use of generative AI and ethics around the engagement with these technologies, as well as approaches to education in these developing fields. Co-founders Jane Barnwell and Jo Briscoe who have been building the network since 2022 led the discussion topics and presentations on the day. Hosted by the PDC as part of the wonderful Production Designers Gathering programme.
The Production Design Research and Education Network (PD-REN) addresses production design’s critical yet overlooked role in education and scholarship. By establishing an international network of researchers and educators PD-REN is developing this critical area to bridge the gap between academia, practice, and industry globally.
