Stefania Artusi (1990, Palermo) is an artist and researcher. She earned her degree in Visual Arts from the UdK (Berlin University of the Arts) in 2020, where she studied under Prof. Ai WeiWei and Prof. Hito Steyerl. In her practice, she explores the role of storytelling as a means of producing knowledge in both contemporary and historical contexts. She is particularly interested in the staging of identity, history, and cultural and social dynamics, addressing these themes through sound, performance, writing, and other media.

Her doctoral research at CREAM, combining both theoretical and practice-based approaches, explores female piracy as a form of resistance, focusing on its historical roots and contemporary developments within the Mediterranean region. The research seeks to reclaim female piracy as a significant and multifaceted resistance practice, particularly in how pirate societies disrupted normative social structures. By examining the fluidity of these societies—characterized by their inclusivity of exiles, refugees, and marginalized individuals—the study contributes to broader discussions on resistance, autonomy, and gender in Mediterranean history.
