Philip Lee works in performance, ceramics, installation, artist’s books, and video. His research focuses on the ways clay has been used in performance, with or without human performers. While there is no clear art movement that brings together the various practitioners who have chosen to use clay in performance, a history can be constructed and continues.
Philip Lee has performed and exhibited at galleries and institutions in the UK and Germany. During a residency at the European Ceramics Workshop Centre (EKWC) in The Netherlands in 2014, he investigated the interaction of large volumes of clay slip on his body. More recently, Philip Lee has produced artist’s books, which animate his body. They have been exhibited internationally and purchased by the Tate, V&A, British Library, Kuntsbibliothek Berlin and MICA Baltimore.
