Artists celebrate the classical and the contemporary at Sir John Soane’s Museum

In an exciting project, four leading ceramic artists have created works inspired by Sir John Soane’s house and collections, which challenge where and how we view both ancient and modern works of art.  The works will go on show in the architect’s own home, No. 13 Lincoln’s Inn Fields, before moving to two historic Soane country houses: Port Eliot in Cornwall and Pitzhanger Manor, Ealing.

Ceramicists Nicholas Rena, Carina Ciscato, Clare Twomey and Christie Brown have juxtaposed modern works of art with the Museum’s remarkable interiors and collections in a ground-breaking exhibition that will provoke reinterpretations of Soane’s own arrangements and domestic architecture.

From Rena’s smooth, ergonomic creations, to Ciscato’s beautiful ceramic vessels, Brown’s interpretation of Soane’s family portraits as ceramic busts to Twomey’s ‘Everyman’s dream’ enveloped in one thousand golden bowls, these works highlight the breadth of contemporary ceramic practice.
