The Moving Image Review and Art Journal (MIRAJ) is launching its double issue 13.1/2 and issue 14.1, making live new research and perspectives on the moving image from its recent issues, through discussion and screenings with an archival twist.

Film archivist Esther Harris reveals the intricate processes of restoring Lis Rhodes’ influential 1978 film Light Reading. In conversation with Lucy Reynolds, she will explore the particular challenges of restoring experimental film and video. Curator and researcher Sophia Satchell–Baeza will debate questions of experimental film and psychedelic vision on the hippy trail with Rachel Garfield. They will explore the portrayal of “self-othering” in counter-cultural filmmaker David Larcher’s epic and rarely seen 1975 travelogue Monkey’s Birthday. What insights can Larcher’s hallucinogenic images offer to the current geo-political context? Discussions and screenings will be followed by drinks and a chance to purchase new and back-copies of MIRAJ.
