Songwon Han is a multidisciplinary artist and researcher whose work explores the intersection of collective and cultural memory, individual subjectivity, and themes of trauma and healing. Her creative works are practised mostly in forms of performance and film in which to discover how these experiences and memories shape personal identity.
She completed her MFA at Slade School of Art, and BA Painting at Hongik University in Seoul. Han is currently a doctoral researcher at the University of Westminster. Her research focuses on how collective memories and historical traumas are transmitted across generations. Her practice includes using performance as care, such as pilates with video and oral storytelling, and investigating water as a symbol of both maternal nurturing and trauma. Drawing on theoretical frameworks from scholars like Jacqueline Rose and Bracha Ettinger, Han’s work seeks to understand how cultural experiences, migration, and sexuality influence the body and its memory.
