Barby Asante

Barby Asante is an artist, curator and researcher based in London.

From 23 February – 6 May 2019 she will present her ongoing project ‘Declaration of Independence‘, “for conversation, collective thinking, ritual and re-enactment”, at the Baltic Center for Contemporary Art, Newcastle.

In September 2018, LADA invited Barby to be Unbound’s Guest Editor as part of her work as the recipient of the first annual Library of Performing Rights Commission, where she developed Declaration of Independence, bringing together womxn of colour in a collective and discursive performance to explore issues of independence and social justice.
